Changing Local Conref into External Conref to Newly-Created Document

To change a local conref into an external conref to a newly-created target, do the following:

  1. Click the conref in the ContentMap.
  2. Call up the Change Local Conref Dialog.

    To call up the Change Local Conref Dialog, choose DITA > Insert Local Conref or click the Insert Local Conref button on the toolbar.

  3. Select the target location.

    To change the local conref into external, click the External Conref tab.

  4. Call up the Create New DITA Document Dialog.

    To call up the Create New DITA Document Dialog, click the Create New DITA Document button .

    The Create New DITA Document Dialog will appear.

  5. Create the new document.

    In the Create New DITA Document Dialog, do the following:

    1. Specify parameters for the new document.
      1. From the Template drop-down list, select a template for the new document.

      2. In the Title field, type the title of the new document.

      3. The Id field gets filled in automatically when you are typing the title.

      4. In the File field, specify the name of the new document.

        Note:

        The new document will be saved in the directory of the current document. To specify another location for saving the new document, use the Browse button.

    2. Click the Create button.

    The new document will be created.

  6. The target is selected automatically.

    In the Change External Conref Dialog, the newly-created document on the Files list and its top-level topic on the Targets list are automatically selected for insertion.



  7. Click the Change button to change the conref.
  8. Click the Close button to close the dialog.
    Note:

    You can also check the Close on Change checkbox, and then click the Change button.
