Serna GUI Layout Customization

Abstract

Syntext Serna handles XML documents of different types. You might wish to customize the GUI layout for the documents of the type you wish.

Syntext Serna offers you a unique functionality to customize and tailor the GUI layout to the needs of a particular user or an enterprise. Feel free to arrange the buttons, toolbars, menus, dockable dialogs, etc. the way you like, change the hot keys and replace the icons with your own.

This chapter deals with information about GUI layout customization proper. To learn how to make the customized GUI layout persistent and even apply it to any installation of Serna in the enterprise, see Saving Customized Serna View and Sharing Customizations.

Here is a quick-start example of Serna GUI layout customization:

See example Changing a Hot Key.

To learn more about the GUI layout, see GUI Layout Concept.

For instructions on how to customize the GUI layout, see How to Customize GUI Layout, How to Override Icon and How to Change Hot Key.

Changing a Hot Key

Suppose you want to change the hot key for the New Document command to Ctrl L .

  1. Call the Interface Customizer Dialog: choose Tools > Customize...

  2. In the Interface Items window choose: mainWindow->mainMenu->documentSubmenu->newDocumentMenuItem.

  3. In the bottom-right Action Properties table, find the line accel which is supposed to have the value Ctrl N , and change this value to Ctrl L . (By doing this you change the hot key for the current document).

Important:

This example just illustrates how to customize the GUI. To make the changes persistent, you must save them (see Making the Changed Hot Key Persistent). For more details on saving customized settings, see Saving Customized Serna View.
