Inserting Topicref to Existing Topic in DITA Map

To insert a topicref to an existing topic, do the following:

  1. In DITA Map, place the cursor where to insert the topicref.
  2. Call up the Insert Topic Reference Dialog.

    To call up the Insert Topic Reference Dialog, choose DITA > Insert Topic Reference or click the Insert Topic Reference button on the toolbar.

    The Insert Topic Reference Dialog will open.

    Note:

    If the cursor stands inside a parent topicref, the Change Topic Reference Dialog will open. In this case, uncheck the Change reference checkbox in the Change Topic Reference Dialog.

  3. Specify the target file.

    In the Insert Topic Reference Dialog, specify the target file one of these ways:

    1. Select an existing file.

      From the Files list, select a file.



      Note:

      To filter the files by type, select a type from the File type drop-down list.

    2. Enter the path to an existing file manually.
      1. In the Path field, type the path to the target file.



        Note:

        It is also possible to type the reference to a topic within a document, using the following format: filename.xml#topicid.

      2. Press Enter to apply the typed path.



  4. Specify the target.

    From the Targets list, select the target.



    Note:

    You can see the list of available targets in the current document.

    To filter the targets by type, select a type from the Show types drop-down list.

  5. Specify Attributes as needed:
    1. Select a collection type.
      From the Collection Type drop-down list, select one of the following:
      1. choice

      2. family

      3. sequence

      4. unordered

    2. Select a format.
      From the Format drop-down list, select one of the following:
      • dita

      • html

      • pdf

      • ditamap

    3. Select a type.

      From the Type drop-down list, select a type: e.g. concept, task, etc.

    4. Select a scope.
      From the Scope drop-down list, select one of the following:
      • local

      • peer

      • external

  6. Click the Insert button to insert the topicref.
  7. Click the Close button to close the dialog.
    Note:

    You can also check the Close on Insert checkbox, and then click the Insert button.
