Opening a Document in WYSIWYG Mode

When opening a document in WYSIWYG mode, Serna does its best to determine the document type and open the document with an appropriate document template applying appropriate XML metadata, such as encoding, XSL Stylesheet and XML Schema.

However, you can open a document with manually specified parameters.
Note:

All DITA documents are opened by default with the DITA V1.1 template. To open a DITA 1.0 document with a DITA 1.0 template, follow the instructions.

To open an existing document in WYSIWYG mode, do the following:

  1. Call up the Open Document Dialog.

To call up the Open Document Dialog, choose Document > Open... , or click the Open Document button on the toolbar, or press Ctrl-O.

  2. Select the document to open.

In the Open Document Dialog, do the following:

    1. If necessary, filter files by type.

      Note:

For instructions on how to set types to be offered, see Specifying File Types For Opening In Serna.

    2. Browse for the document.
  3. Click the Open button.

Serna will guess the document type and open the document.

If Serna fails to guess the document type, the message that no document template matched the document will appear.

In this case, do one of the following:
    1. If you are opening a document type unknown to Serna, click the Use Default button.

Serna will open the document with the default template.

    2. If you are opening a document type known to Serna, click the Choose Template button.

The Choose Document Template Dialog will appear, where you can explicitly choose the document category and template.
